Confetti on the steps of Old Marylebone Town Hall as Nick and Liz leave their ceremony

London Wedding · Marylebone & Marble Arch

A sublime London wedding. A ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall, confetti on the steps, a bus tour around the streets of the city, and then drinking and dancing the night away at The Italian Greyhound.

The day began in a hotel room in central London, the pair of them getting ready separately with the people closest to them. Nick with his groomsmen and his son, ties being sorted and retied; Liz with hairspray, quiet nerves and a dress worth every second of the wait. She finished it off with a pair of epic Jimmy Choos, which is exactly the right energy for walking into a town hall on Marylebone Road.

Then to Old Marylebone Town Hall to marry her best friend. The ceremony rooms here are all dark wood panelling and tall windows, and they do something clever: they make twenty minutes feel like a proper occasion. Rings, a first kiss with the whole room clapping, and the two of them walking back out through those big doors into the light.

The day was full of love, laughter and a fair amount of emotion, and none of it needed any help from me. I stayed out of the way and photographed it as it happened.

If you are planning your own ceremony there, I have written a full guide to being a Marylebone Town Hall wedding photographer, covering the ceremony rooms, how the timings really work and where to go afterwards.

Outside, the steps did what the steps at Marylebone always do. Columns, stone, a tight crowd and a wall of confetti. You get fifteen or twenty minutes out there before the next wedding arrives, and it is always one of my favourite parts of the day.

Then the bit I had been looking forward to. A bus, and a slow tour around the streets of London with everybody on board. Nothing photographs a London wedding quite like a bus full of people who have just watched two of their favourite humans get married.

The evening was at The Italian Greyhound, a genuinely wonderful restaurant near Marble Arch and a brilliant choice for a wedding of this size. Candles, long tables, food arriving steadily, and speeches that landed properly. There was a lot of laughing and a bit of crying, which is the correct ratio.

And then the dancing, which went on and on. This is also where I learned something new: when Eagle Rock by Daddy Cool comes on, the Australians in the room drop their trousers. I had no warning. I did get the photograph.

Nick and Liz, thank you for one of the best days. Every bit of it was yours.

Marylebone is one of the London venues I photograph most often. There is more on how I cover weddings across the city on my London wedding photography page.

Man, just sat there for half an hour with Liz and went through them. My cheeks now hurt from smiling so much. Absolutely legendary photos mate! I was trying to pick one section of the gallery to pay particular compliments on, but they are all so darn good. Captured the feeling perfectly and we don't even remember you taking some of them, which talks to how seamlessly you blended in. I can't tell you how happy I am we got you to shoot our big day.
