A wedding venue like no other in London

Brunswick House is a London wedding venue like no other — and I am fortunate enough to be a recommended photographer here.

I'm Oliver — a documentary wedding photographer, and Brunswick House is one of those rare venues that genuinely stops me in my tracks every time I arrive. Built in 1758 as a private mansion for the Duke of Brunswick, it now operates as an extraordinary hybrid: a restaurant, an event space, and a working antiques shop — all under one roof.

That last detail is what makes it so special for photography. Because the furniture, paintings and objects around you are actually for sale, the décor is never quite the same from one wedding to the next. Your photographs will be entirely unique to your day — no other couple's pictures will look like yours.

I've had the privilege of photographing Sara and Chris's wedding here — from their morning preparations at The Artist Residence in London, through their ceremony at Chelsea Old Town Hall, and then down to Brunswick House on a vintage London bus for one of the most memorable receptions I've ever been part of.

What makes Brunswick House extraordinary

Brunswick House sits on the Vauxhall roundabout — an unlikely location for one of London's most romantic and photographically rich wedding venues. Step through the front door, however, and the city completely disappears. You enter a world of chandeliers, oil paintings, Persian rugs, draped curtains and antique furniture that shifts and changes between every wedding.

The Antiques Shop That Changes Everything

What truly sets Brunswick House apart is that it is also a working antiques dealership. The objects, furniture and art around you are for sale — which means no two weddings ever look the same. This is genuinely one of the most exciting things that can happen for a documentary photographer: entirely fresh, unrepeatable environments in every room.

The Rooms

The Saloon is the heart of the house: a grand, high-ceilinged reception room with chandeliers and open fireplaces, opening onto the roof terrace — a quiet oasis above the city. The Library, Smoking Room and Parlour each have their own character, making the building feel more like a private home than a function suite. Below ground, the Cellar Bar is one of the best basement spaces for dancing anywhere in London, licensed until 1am without disturbing the neighbours.

The Courtyard Garden & Roof Terrace

Outside, the ground-level courtyard is scattered with old street signs, lanterns, statuary and fountains — perfect for drinks in warmer months and an extraordinary backdrop for portraits. The roof terrace above, accessed from the Saloon, gives couples a moment of calm above the city, with views across Vauxhall and the Thames beyond.

Food & Drink

Catering is handled by Brunswick House's critically acclaimed in-house kitchen, using produce grown on their own farm in West Sussex. The food is genuinely exceptional, and the team are experienced at working around wedding timings to ensure the day flows exactly as it should.

The Spaces

A whole mansion, floor by floor

Each room at Brunswick House has its own personality — from intimate candlelit dinners to a full reception across the ground floor and basement. Mix and match to suit your guest numbers and vision.

The Saloon

42 seated · 80 standing

The main reception room — chandeliers, open fireplaces, draped curtains and direct access to the roof terrace. The heart of the house and the most photographed space in the building.

The Library

24 seated · 60 standing

A warm, book-lined room ideal for intimate dinners, civil ceremonies or the ceremony itself. Works beautifully paired with the Saloon for a flowing reception.

The Smoking Room

20 seated · 40 standing

Adjoining the Saloon and sharing access to the roof terrace, the Smoking Room extends the ground-floor reception space and adds another fireplace to the mix.

The Parlour

14 seated · 20 standing

The most intimate space in the house — perfect for a small ceremony, a private dining experience, or a quiet corner for photographs away from the main reception.

The Cellar Bar

Licensed until 1am

Brunswick House's biggest secret. The basement bar is one of the best underground dance spaces in London — low ceilings, great atmosphere, and a licence to keep the party going until 1am without any noise concerns for neighbours.

Roof Terrace & Courtyard

Outdoor spaces

Two distinct outdoor areas: the ground-level courtyard garden filled with antique lanterns and statuary, and the roof terrace above the Saloon — a city escape for drinks, portraits and a breath of air.

My approach at Brunswick House

Brunswick House is a gift for a documentary photographer. The building’s extraordinary variety of rooms, light sources and textures means I’m never stuck for somewhere interesting to work — and because the antiques change between weddings, I’m always discovering something new.

Working with the Chandeliers

The chandeliers at Brunswick House provide some of the most flattering, atmospheric artificial light I’ve encountered in any London venue. They cast a warm, even glow that works beautifully for both the natural moments during dinner and the more energetic moments of the reception — without any of the strobing or colour-casting you sometimes get in modern function spaces.

The Basement Dance Floor

When the party moves downstairs to the Cellar Bar, the energy shifts completely. Lower ceilings, tighter spaces, and a crowd ready to celebrate — it’s where the most spontaneous and joyful photographs of the evening tend to happen. I stay on the floor with you, working close and fast, documenting what unfolds rather than directing any of it.

First-Look Portraits

The courtyard garden is one of my favourite places for couple portraits at Brunswick House — particularly in the late afternoon when the light dips below the surrounding buildings and everything glows gold. If the timing allows, the roof terrace at dusk, looking out over Vauxhall, is another setting that consistently produces exceptional images.

★★★★★

I don't think we have enough words to describe how AWESOME, AMAZING and just THE BEST Oliver is. Aside from being amazing at what he does, what really makes him special is his big heart and care for the couples he works with. From day one Ollie was interested in getting to know Chris and I on a personal level — what kind of a couple we were to capture our energy. He just made the entire day, from getting ready to the end of the night, super fun for both of us. Our photos came out better than we could have imagined. Oliver, thank you for capturing all the love, emotion, laughter and tears from our big day. It is one we will never forget.

★★★★★

Oli surpassed all expectations for what I had for a wedding photographer and took all the stress out the process. It was truly enjoyable to work together. Oli has a vibrant and easy going energy that brings the best atmosphere to your special day and his documentary style perfectly captures genuine moments without the worry of posing. Also, his commitment to the dancefloor was superb. A photographer who goes above and beyond to create lasting memories — highly recommend!

Everything you need to know

Brunswick House — common questions

Brunswick House holds a civil ceremony licence and can host your ceremony and reception under one roof. That said, many couples choose to hold their ceremony elsewhere — at Chelsea Old Town Hall or a local register office — and use Brunswick House exclusively for the reception. Arriving on a vintage London bus, as Sara and Chris did, makes for extraordinary photographs and a genuinely memorable entrance.

For a seated wedding dinner with dancing, Brunswick House can accommodate up to 110 guests on full exclusive hire. For a drinks and canapés reception, up to 250 guests can be accommodated across all the spaces. Individual rooms can also be hired separately — the Saloon seats 42, the Library 24, the Smoking Room 20, and the Parlour 14 — making it equally suited to intimate celebrations.

Brunswick House is genuinely one of my favourite London venues to photograph. Because it's also a working antiques dealership, the furniture, art and objects around you are actually for sale — which means the décor changes between every wedding. No two sets of photographs from this venue ever look quite the same. The chandeliers provide warm, film-quality light. The basement dance floor creates incredible energy. And the variety of rooms — from the grand Saloon to the intimate Parlour — gives the day a real sense of movement and discovery.

Yes — two distinct outdoor spaces. The ground-floor courtyard garden is filled with antique lanterns, statuary, fountains and old street signs — perfect for a drinks reception and for portraits. Above the Saloon, the roof terrace is a small but beautiful escape above the city, with views across Vauxhall and the Thames, particularly lovely at dusk.

Brunswick House is just a 2-minute walk from Vauxhall underground station (Victoria line), Vauxhall National Rail station, and multiple bus stops. It's one of the most accessible venues in London. For couples travelling from a Central London ceremony — particularly Chelsea Town Hall — a vintage double-decker bus for the journey is a wonderfully celebratory way to make the trip, and it creates brilliant photographs along the way.

Yes — I'm proud to be a recommended photographer at Brunswick House. That means I know the building thoroughly: which rooms photograph best at different times of day, where the chandeliers create the most atmosphere, how to work the courtyard and roof terrace, and how to get the most from the basement dance floor at the end of the night. If you're planning a Brunswick House wedding, I'd love to hear about it.
