Ellie & George | A Guernsey Wedding
Guernsey · Channel Islands
A Destination Wedding Story
A sea swim before the suits went on, a church on a hill, a marquee beside the water and a silent disco to finish. Ellie and George’s Guernsey wedding was worth every one of the postponements.
A Morning Swim
I started this wedding with my feet in the sea. George and the boys went for a morning swim before getting into their suits, and George gave us his best Daniel Craig on the way out of the water. It remains one of my favourite ways any groom has ever begun a wedding day. Meanwhile Ellie spent the morning with her family, champagne in hand, letting the excitement build slowly.
The Church on the Hill
The church sat on a hill, which meant walking up the aisle in both senses. The setting could not have been more picturesque, and the ceremony itself was full of the kind of emotion that two years of waiting builds up. When a wedding has been postponed this many times, nobody holds anything back.
A Marquee by the Sea
The reception was a marquee pitched right beside the water. Canapés, drinks and speeches that swung between tears and laughter, all with the sea sitting just behind the top table. Destination weddings like this are a big part of why I travel with my cameras, and travel is always built into my pricing rather than bolted on afterwards.
The Guernsey Sunset
As the evening arrived, so did a properly sublime Guernsey sunset. I whisked Ellie and George away for ten minutes of portraits in that warm golden light, and those frames are some of my favourites of the whole year. Then, to keep the party going late without upsetting the neighbours, a silent disco. Two hours of a packed dance floor where the only sounds were tapping feet and the occasional line sung out loud. Strange to stand in, brilliant to photograph.
Ahhh these look amazing. Thank you so much for being the best photographer we could’ve asked for.Ellie
I photograph weddings across the UK and beyond from my base in Bristol, and a travelling wedding is always a yes. For more days like this one, have a look at Becca and Scott’s Devon wedding at Upton Barn, browse the portfolio, or read what past couples say on the testimonials page.
