A Documentary Wedding Story

A restored thatched barn on a 300 acre private estate, a lakeside for portraits, and a wedding breakfast with Arsenal table names. Fi and Matt’s weekend at the Worstead Estate is North Norfolk at its best.

The Worstead Estate is an exclusive use wedding venue on a private country estate in North Norfolk, set around a quiet lakeside within 300 acres of parkland. The heart of it is a beautifully restored thatched barn and sawmill, with estate accommodation that turns a wedding into a proper weekend. It is also corkage free, which your bar bill will thank you for. I photographed Fi and Matt here across a full wedding weekend and it has been on my favourites list ever since.

Fi and her bridesmaids got ready in the estate cottage, which has exactly the kind of soft natural light a photographer hopes for on a wedding morning. As guests filtered into The Woodyard, Fi made the walk down to the thatched barn for a ceremony full of emotion and laughter, which is precisely the mix every great ceremony needs. Afterwards everyone spilled onto the West Terrace for canapés and a glass of something cold, and Fi delivered a heartfelt speech of her own that landed with everybody.

Between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast we took twenty minutes by the lake for couple portraits, along with the group photographs that every family quietly treasures. The Woodyard itself is flooded with natural light, which lets the room do half of my job for me. Matt got the green light to name the tables after Arsenal, and his former flatmate delivered a best man speech built almost entirely on Peep Show references, which kept my shutter very busy.

As the sun dropped, the cocktails flowed and the dance floor filled, and that is where a wedding weekend at Worstead really earns its keep. Nobody has a taxi to catch. Everybody stays, and the party runs exactly as long as it wants to.

Oliver did such a great job at our wedding! He made us feel so at ease, and got to know all of my bridesmaids’ and family’s names which I thought was such a nice touch. He captured so many great photos across the day and made sure to get group photos with all the people we wanted. He fitted in so well with the day and was great company to have around, we would recommend him to anyone!
